I realised a couple of days ago that Gifted? had opened their new competition with the brief “tropical” and I thought it would be fun to enter. Then I realised I was a little behind the times, in fact the deadline was the end of the very same day… I decided to fish out my watercolour set and get going despite the tight deadline – after all there is a certain freedom to feeling like you have so little time to do something that if it doesn’t work, well, so what? Anyway, I managed to paint these two little watercolour pictures and submit them before the end of the day, which made me happy and also made me realise that sometimes it’s actually quite nice not to overthink things!
I am absolutely thrilled to bits that my entry to the Make it in Design testimonials competition has won me a place on the next part of the course! My picture was created with water colour and I used a dip pen for the fine lettering. I loved doing the first module in the Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design course and it really has changed the way I look at the world, so it felt right to use bright spring colours to express that. My testimonial was one of two to have been chosen by course leader and design guru Rachael Taylor and fellow winner was Kevin Brackley who is no doubt feeling every bit as chuffed as I am!
A few weeks ago I decided to enter Ohh Deer’s Pillowfight competition. The brief was to design two cushion covers to no particular theme so I decided to employ my studio demon Raimon as well as his skating friend of indeterminate species to adorn the cushions. Now I have to wait and see if anyone likes my designs!
