I was looking through some old work the other day and came across these two loveheart ladies. They are made with collaged tissue paper, ink and coloured pencil. I can’t really remember what prompted me to come up with these but I always rather liked them!
summer workshops
Next week is going to be a busy one for me with workshops in Cherry Hinton, Chatteris, Bar Hill and Cambridge Central libraries. I haven’t 100% worked out what I’m doing yet but it is very likely to involve cutting, sticking and generally having quite a lot of fun making monsters! The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge is Mythical Maze so I’m going to be creating some monsters that haven’t been seen in a long, long time….Sort of like these guys:
Pop-up Dragons!
Today is the day of the Histon and Impington Feast Book Jam and I will be joining forces with Nicola Killen to run a pop-up dragon-making children’s workshop! After independently doing workshops involving pop-ups and collaged dragons we decided to join forces and create a super-workshop that does the lot! If you would like to join in then come and find us at Histon Junior school later today. We will be running three sessions over the course of the afternoon, starting at 12.15pm, 1.45pm and 3pm. Here is my first attempt at a pop-up dragon…
Open Studios Prep
Open Studios is coming around fast and here at 22 Derby Road preparations have started getting underway! We are opening our studio on the 19th/20th July and the 26th/27th July so if you live in or around Cambridge then do come and have a look. Myself, Nicola Killen, Neil Warmsley and Ian Farrell all share a studio and we will be showing illustrations, paintings, photographs and prints. You will also be able to buy copies of some of our books, my Grubbies scarves and Ian will be taking photographs for a live exhibition of portraits throughout both weekends!
It’s all going a bit Christmassy around here…
These are some of the things I’ve been making ready for my Fimo demonstration at Jarrolds on Saturday. You may notice there’s a bit of a Christmas theme going on… Sorry, I know its only November – I just like making tree decorations! I have used lots of sparky “effect” Fimo here as well as seed beads and I picked out the patterns with a pin.
Mattishall Primary visit
These pictures were taken after a visit I made to Mattishall Primary school earlier this year. I wanted to put them up because I thought the children did such brilliant and individual work on the day and it’s even more special to see all their characters put together to make a great big display.
Here’s another one together with some additions of my own:
And one more…
Aren’t they great? What a creative bunch.
This was the visit that inspired Raimon my studio demon into being, here he is with his little umbrella:
