These are some of the things I’ve been making ready for my Fimo demonstration at Jarrolds on Saturday. You may notice there’s a bit of a Christmas theme going on… Sorry, I know its only November – I just like making tree decorations! I have used lots of sparky “effect” Fimo here as well as seed beads and I picked out the patterns with a pin.

Next weekend I’ll be holding a Fimo demonstration in the art department of Jarrolds department store in Norwich. In case you have never heard of Fimo, it is a polymer clay, which is to say a special kind of modelling clay which you can cook in the oven so that your models turn hard become permanent. Fimo is great stuff and I’ve been making things from it since I was a tiddler.
Fimo demos are always lots of fun as I show children and adults how to make all sorts of colourful creations from model animals to jewellery and everything in between. This weekend I will be limbering up my fimo fingers by making Christmas creatures for the demo, but for now here are some little horrors I made earlier…

Cards from Africa are a super company who are working to offer employment to those who need it the most. All their cards are collaged by hand making each individual piece really quite special. A few weeks ago I decided to enter Ohh Deer’s Pillowfight competition. The brief was to design two cushion covers to no particular theme so I decided to employ my studio demon Raimon as well as his skating friend of indeterminate species to adorn the cushions. Now I have to wait and see if anyone likes my designs!

These are some patterns I’ve been working on recently, I’m not quite sure what to do with them yet but I’m sure I’ll work it out. These little characters were all made using FW inks and scissors then scanned in and rearranged in the computer.
This is Raimon, my studio demon, having a little nap underneath a copy of Ping. He likes to test my books to make sure they are versatile and suitable for a variety of uses above and beyond reading. This one apparently works quite well as a small tent.
A few weeks ago I paid a visit to Histon Library to do a colouring workshop with some of the children from the village. I drew big line drawings of some of the characters from my books such as Bertie from Ready, Steady, Ghost! and Evie and Ping from Ping! The children coloured and collaged until we had some lovely work to decorate the library with! Here is the Bertie-ghost picture we made together:
I particularly like the way you can see through Bertie to the footprints beyond! Nice work.
Grubbies is a rather fantastic new children’s wear company whose very first range of clothing I am proud to say features some Marion drawing! The minds behind the dungerees asked me to design two kerchiefs for their very first season and I was most happy to oblige. We worked away on ideas based around a wild west theme and came up with “Coyote” and Wild Horses”.
I am terribly proud of them and have been enjoying wearing them far too much….

These pictures were taken after a visit I made to Mattishall Primary school earlier this year. I wanted to put them up because I thought the children did such brilliant and individual work on the day and it’s even more special to see all their characters put together to make a great big display.
